Campbell Scientific RangeVue 15 – Radar Water-Level Sensor
The Campbell Scientific RangeVue 15 is a non-contact 80 GHz radar sensor for measuring water level and distance to the water surface at ranges up to 15 m. It provides ±2 mm accuracy, SDI-12 communication, Bluetooth configuration, and an IP66/68 enclosure.
Campbell Scientific RangeVue 15 – Radar Water-Level Sensor
The Campbell Scientific RangeVue 15 is a non-contact radar sensor for continuous water-level monitoring in rivers, streams, channels, lakes, reservoirs, and tanks. It uses 80 GHz radar technology to measure the distance between the sensor face and the water surface.
The measured distance can be converted into water level or stage by applying a known reference value. Because the sensor is installed above the water, it is protected from corrosion, contamination, flood debris, sediment, and many of the risks associated with submerged instruments.
Key Benefits
- non-contact water-level measurement;
- measurement range up to 15 m;
- ±2 mm accuracy;
- 1 mm resolution;
- 80 GHz radar technology;
- SDI-12 version 1.4 communication;
- configuration over SDI-12 and Bluetooth;
- low power consumption;
- no moving parts and low maintenance requirements;
- IP66/68 environmental protection;
- operating-temperature range from –40°C to +80°C;
- compatibility with SDI-12 data loggers and controllers.
Measurement and Installation
The RangeVue 15 transmits a frequency-modulated continuous radar signal toward the water surface. The reflected signal is analysed to determine the distance to the target. A reference stage can then be used to calculate the actual water level.
The sensor has an 8° beam angle. The measurement path should be free from beams, walls, pipes, cables, bridge piers, vegetation, and other objects that could cause unwanted reflections.
Communication and Configuration
The sensor communicates using SDI-12 version 1.4. Its address, measurement units, reference stage, and operating parameters can be configured through SDI-12 commands or through a Bluetooth connection using a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Applications
- river and stream-level monitoring;
- reservoirs, lakes, and dams;
- open channels and irrigation systems;
- flood-warning systems;
- bridge and infrastructure monitoring;
- tidal and coastal-water monitoring;
- remote hydrological stations.
Compatibility
The RangeVue 15 is compatible with any SDI-12-compliant data logger or controller, including Campbell Scientific CR310, CR350, CR6, CR1000Xe, and other compatible systems.
