Campbell Scientific CR350

The Campbell Scientific CR350 is a compact, extremely low-power measurement and control datalogger. It features four analog inputs, USB-C, two independent RS-232/RS-485 ports, and two dedicated SDI-12 terminals for connecting smart sensors and communication devices.

Campbell Scientific CR350 – Compact Datalogger with RS-485

The Campbell Scientific CR350 is a multipurpose, compact, and extremely low-power measurement and control datalogger. It is designed for small and medium-sized applications requiring reliable long-term operation, remote monitoring, and flexible integration of analog and digital sensors.

The CR350 can measure a wide range of hydrological, meteorological, environmental, geotechnical, and industrial sensors. It processes and stores measurements, performs automated control functions, and transfers data through serial, radio, Wi-Fi, cellular, or satellite communication systems.

The main advantage of the CR350 compared with the CR310 is its two independent RS-232/RS-485 communication ports and USB-C interface. The CR350 does not include an integrated RJ45 Ethernet port, but it is better suited to systems using RS-485 sensors, industrial serial devices, and extremely low-power operation.

Key Benefits

  • extremely low power consumption;
  • four analog inputs configurable as four single-ended or two differential channels;
  • 24-bit analog-to-digital converter;
  • two independent RS-232/RS-485 communication ports;
  • dedicated RS-232 DB9 communication port;
  • USB-C interface for configuration, programming, and local data collection;
  • two independent SDI-12 terminals for smart sensors;
  • support for 0–20 mA and 4–20 mA signals through the SE1 and SE2 inputs;
  • removable terminal connectors for easier wiring and maintenance;
  • integrated charge regulator for a 12 V battery and solar panel;
  • two switched 12 V outputs for sensors and communication devices;
  • integrated surge, electrostatic discharge, over-current, and reverse-polarity protection;
  • programmable using CRBasic and configurable using Short Cut;
  • available with integrated Wi-Fi, RF422, and 4G communication options.

Measurement Inputs and Control

The CR350 provides four multipurpose analog inputs that can be configured as four single-ended or two differential channels. The inputs support voltage measurements, thermocouples, thermistors, RTDs, current signals, and resistive bridge measurements.

The SE1 and SE2 inputs can directly measure non-isolated 0–20 mA and 4–20 mA current signals. The datalogger also provides pulse inputs, configurable digital inputs and outputs, two programmable voltage excitation terminals, and two switched 12 V outputs.

RS-232, RS-485, and SDI-12 Communication

The CR350 includes two independent COM2 and COM3 communication ports that can operate as RS-232 or half-duplex RS-485 interfaces. This allows direct connection of smart sensors, industrial controllers, Modbus devices, and communication modems without requiring an external RS-485 converter.

The C1 and C2 terminals can operate as two independent SDI-12 ports or as a serial Tx/Rx communication pair. A separate 9-pin RS-232 port is also available for connection to a computer, modem, or other serial device.

USB-C and Remote Access

The USB-C port is used for initial configuration, program transfer, setting changes, and local data collection. It can also operate as a USB host for compatible mass-storage devices.

The CR350 does not include an integrated RJ45 Ethernet port. IP communication can be provided through Ethernet over USB, an integrated Wi-Fi or cellular option, or an external communication gateway. Supported protocols and services include PakBus, Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, Modbus TCP, DNP3, MQTT, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, SMTP, and NTP.
